ROOTED IN MOVEMENT

Rooted in Movement is a free 5-week women-only programme in Newham for women who don’t currently have stable housing.

That might mean sofa surfing, living in temporary accommodation, staying somewhere that doesn’t feel secure, or moving between places.

Each week we create a calm, steady space to move gently, breathe, and connect with other women who understand. There’s also optional support around housing and next steps if you’d like it.

You don’t need to explain your situation.
You don’t need to be “ready”
Come as you are.

IT'S FOR WOMEN WHO

  • are aged between 18 to 40.

  • live in Newham or nearby East London boroughs

  • want a calm, women-only space

  •  may be feeling overwhelmed, tired, isolated, or under pressure

  • don’t usually have access to movement or wellbeing spaces

  • If that sounds like you, you are welcome here.

IT OFFERS

  • A women-only space where you can feel safe and not judged.

  • Weekly 1,5 hour sessions in a calm, accessible location in Newham.

  • A 5-week programme giving you time to settle in and build trust at your own pace.

  •  A gentle, consistent structure so you always know what to expect.

  • Experienced, trauma-informed facilitators who understand how stress and instability can affect the body.

  • Transport expenses are covered.

  • Childcare support provided.

IT'S BUILT AROUND

  • consistency, not quick fixes

  • choice, not obligation

  • connection, not isolation.

GENTLE MOVEMENT (60 min)

  • Gentle stretching

  • Pilates-inspired movement

  • Light strength-building exercises

Everything is optional and adaptable: move at your own pace, take breaks, or sit out whenever you need.

BREATHING & CIRCLE SPACE (30 min)

  •  Gentle breathing and grounding practices

  •  Space to slow down and settle your nervous system

  • Sitting together in a supportive, women-only circle

You can share if you want, but listening is enough, with wellbeing volunteers ensuring the space stays calm, safe, and supportive.

WOMEN FEEDBACK

Every woman’s experience is different. Over the weeks, some women may find that they:

  • Feel more grounded

  • Gain practical tools to manage stress

  • Feel more connected and less alone

  • Rebuild trust in themselves

Our wellbeing workshops are designed to provide a safe, supportive space for personal growth, connection, and empowerment. They include activities such as movement, mindfulness, and peer support, intended to support overall wellbeing.

However, these sessions are not a substitute for professional medical, mental health, or therapeutic advice, diagnosis, or treatment. While we may share tools and signpost to additional support, participants are encouraged to seek guidance from qualified professionals where needed.

By taking part, you acknowledge responsibility for your own wellbeing and participation. If at any point you feel discomfort physically or emotionally you are encouraged to pause and seek appropriate support.
